56th day

Friday. Last day of culture week. We sang in the morning, and then thankfully we didn't have to sing again until we preformed. So after an early lunch we got to listen to more famous Danish bands, I have heard like 8 famous Danish bands already, they sure get around. These guys were really good though, they had alot of different kinds of music, they had a violinist, more of a techno type song, a crazy gypsyish girl (she was actually really cool, she was totally into her music), and then I guy who I'm guessing is like the Danish version of Frank Sinatra, he was also really good, everyone was really excited about him. Then we did our own presentations witch were all pretty cool except the film ones, they were just weird! No wonder Danish movies are so bad, they are taught wrong in school. I mean they looked professional but... They should just do cool ones like you guys do at the beginning of the school year in brush (someone needs to send me a link to find that). Then on my way home I was naughty and wasted my money on ice cream. And that night we watched Denmark's got Talent! It was in the finale so we got to see the best of the best and crazy people :D I am dissapionted though, none of the music acts made it :( I am realizing that America is actually a really musical country, I mean we have bands and choirs in school and music acts almost always win Americas got Talent.

55th day

Thursday. Another long day at school, but today we did the things we had chosen for culture week all day. Yet again I manage to not have PE class! :D I got music, they should have called it coir. That's what we did ALL DAY. Except in the morning they had a dance presentation. It was pretty cool they had hip hop dance and Zumba dance, which is a kind of dance and kung fu combined, it was really cool. The coir was not so cool, I'm glad to be in coir again but singing the same song all day without any breaks is NOT fun :( Then right after school I had danish lessons so I didn't get home until 6:00, another long day. Did I mention the weather is better? :D

54th day

Wednesday. Today was a long day at school -_- I hate long days, the short days are awesome we get out at 1:45, long days not so much we don't get out until 3:45. Still I guess it's better than when I got home at 4:00 everyday because of math :(. This morning for culture week we had a professional opera director talk to us. Apparently he is the youngest guy to ever become an opera director, which is believable, he was really young I would say only his mid 20s and he has already retired from his opera work and wants to do something else now. So he showed us parts of the opera Don Juan, and I was like isn't that the opera from Phantom of the Opera? But it was modern day so I don't know... So since I didn't have anything going after school on this day I took that US Gov test I've been meaning to take. I only missed 2! :D So with seminary and US Gov I keep pretty busy, but I just found out that I don't even need to be done with my US Gov class till June, so I guess I have time.

53rd day

Tuesday. Today for the the culture week we had a Danish movie director come and talk to us. I would have been cool except I couldn't understand anything... I had a meeting with the principle of the music school after school and I got a frenchhorn! There is an orcestra starting some time in October and a quior starting next week that I think I will join. So then I had a problem I had a frenchhorn and a bike... I coulden't get home, so I called my host mom, and she was getting off of work in about 10 mintues so she was able to come pick it up but I had about 15 minutes until then. Thankfully I was in Downtown Ronne, everyone had ice cream so of course I had to get some :). Then I had Danish lessons. So a bussy day.

52nd day

Monday, at school this week we are having a festivle thingy of some kind... I haven't got any satisfactory explanations yet, but basically what we are doing is choosing out of several subjects like dancing, music, poetry, chemistry. And then we will study that in more depth with another group of students that have chosen the same subject. That part of it hasn't officially started yet though, right now we are being shown all of the different subjects in the morning ( I don't know why because they already made us choose what we want to study). Today we were shown the Chemistry part of it, it was pretty cool mostly he just blew a lot of things up, it was entertaining especially sense I can't understand it when people talk. After school I did my seminary and then checked my Email to find that I had an appiontment with John in 5 minutes. Haha, that was interesting. So I grabbed my cell phone left a note for my host parents and waited for John to come pick me up. Luckly my host mom arrived just as we were leaving so John was able to talk to her I felt bad leaving nothing but a note. So then I went to Johns and we set up an appointment with the music school and tomorrow I am going to go and talk to them about getting a French Horn and maybe doing some after school activity's. And that's what the appiontment was about, calling the music school, so I wonder...1. why did I have to be there? 2.why did it have to start at 3:00 if he wasn't going to take me to the Rotary dinner til 6:00? 3. Does it usually take 3 hours to phone the music school and set up an appointment? Because it took us about 2o minutes and then we were done. With 2 and 40 minutes to spare. I'm figuring that John and his wife are lonely old people. The rotary dinner was good, I actually liked the food this time, and we had ice cream for desert! I love Danish ice cream! I wish there were some way I could send you guys some but I don't think there is a way to transport ice cream over seas.

51st day

Sunday, regrettably I didn't go to church because we all stayed up really late and then we had a big breakfast together as a family in the morning. After breakfast everyone but my host brothers and Lasse's girlfriend left. So then we hung out for the rest of the day and they did homework and I read my scriptures and we all snacked on food. Good day.

50th day

Saturday. Today was really fun my host brothers and oldest host brothers girlfriend arrived so I could talk to people again! I mean I could talk to my host parents but its not the same as talking to fellow teenagers, I guess they are more like young adults though because they are in collage. We went for a walk on the beach and it was really windy and wavy, I got some cool pictures that I will upload later. That night we went to a fancy restaurant for my host grandmothers birthday. We all got the same (gross) thing and that was... raw fish with lots of green seasoning and springs on it (thank goodness they didn't tell me it was raw until after I ate it); for the second coarse we had dove, some kind of kidney I think, mushrooms and what they called a pumpkin pancake, which is pretty much what it sounds like; and for the desert we had Cream Boula (its french and I have no idea how to spell it) but what it was is, pudding that has the top of it caramelized, it was pretty good we had ours with (if you ask me to many) almonds in it (they should have been cashews), and chocolate pudding on the top with orange peel things in it, it was good it was like orange chocolate. But Danish people are weird they ate all of the disgusting food and I am the only one that was able to finish the Cream Boula. And then to add to there weirdness when we got home we talked and SNACKED! I couldn't believe it when they got chips and chocolate out, I was full! How are these people (supposedly) healthier than us!?

49th day

Friday. It was an eventful day. I almost forgot, I got interviewed today ( I did forget in the morning and wore totally ugly clothes), some students from the media class interviewed me as one of there projects. It must be like the 4th time I've been on video sense I got here, you wouldn't believe how often I see camera men going around here! Back home you would see something like that about 2 or 3 times a year, here I see it about 2 or 3 times a WEEK! I guess when you live in a small country there isn't much news. After lunch the Danish equivalent of Prime Minister came to the school and gave a talk and answered questions! I thought it was really cool but everyone else wasn't very impressed, they need to take a government class. ;) And that night there was a stoplight party at the school. It's a cool idea you where green if you're not in a relationship and red if you are ( I don't know what yellow is). So I got invited to a party before the party, and that was fun we ate food played cards and sang along with MTV. The actual party was not as fun. We had to wait outside in the rain and wind for and HOUR in a huge line before they let us in ( I think my cold is coming back now), and the DJs were just terrible they just played all the songs together at the same time, it sounded really bad, and of course everyone was drunk and drunk people are REALLY annoying, they run into you and step on your toes. I don't want to go to anymore party's.

48th day

Thursday. The weather is slightly better because instead of raining constantly it is just really windy, which makes biking to school a pain. I had Danish lessons again today and I was able to make it without getting lost, yes! And we are cleaning the house because Bent's mom and the rest of his family are coming over for her Birthday.

47th day

Wednesday, I am cold and wet.

46th day

Tuesday. Just another normal Tuesday, weather is still bad, had to bike to school in the rain. But we had Danish lessons today, I totally got lost and was half and hour late to class, I don't like the city. But I love Danish lessons, it's like a sitcom, our teacher can hardy speak any English, there is a Italian girl who is always late, a pair of brothers that actually moved here and the older one is like a role model student but the younger one is like emoish, a boy form China who is always making gay jokes, a girl from Romania who always wants/brings food (not because she's fat or anything it's just that she doesn't have time to stop by home for a snack before class), and the other 3 of us just trying to learn some Danish. Its quite entertaining when you put all these people together. So yeah I have fun. :)

45th day

Monday I go ta ride to school because it was raining and then walked home, I got a pastry on my way home it was good :).

44th day

Sunday I went to church and then read my scriptures in the park, I also went on a walk in the woods near my house, it was a nice relaxing day :)

42nd day

I had a lazy morning and then around 2:00 I went downtown. I was expecting it to be really busy because the weather was pretty good and there is a big boat race going on in the harbor right now. But it wasn't, it was almost empty, turns out that most shops close at like 2:00 on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays. I wonder how they make a living. So I wasn't able to buy the sweeter I was hoping to ( I didn't bring any with me and its already really cold here) But I was able to buy a pastry because the bakerys are always open in Denmark.

41st day

Friday I went to school. We tried lots of different instruments in music class, it was fun, unfortunately he didn't have any brass instruments but I did get to try bass guitar, it was awesome! And then I came home and rested. Had more pancakes for desert. Yep

40th day

Thursday, I was still sick. I blew my brains out that night, so I was exsausted but the good thing is there wasn't much left in the morning. So I worked on American Gov again, read more books, and watched Anime online, I'm such a nerd :). That night we had crapes ice cream, cane sugar, whipping cream, syrup (It's way different than American syrup, they don't use maple because it's to expensive), and jam, on the crapes (she called them pancakes but they were crapes). It was really good :D

39th day

Wednesday, sick day. I caught a cold. Probably at wonder festival. So I stayed home, worked on my American Government class (I passed the test!), watched School of Rock, read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Slept. In the afternoon I got my package so I was able to eat sweets while I was sick :)

38th day

Thursday, Gee, I can't remember... school was normal home was normal, started to get a runny nose, the usual.

37th day

Monday. School was fine and A girl took me to the library after school today! I got the second Harry Potter in Danish because I have it in English so I can translate it, and I also got Voyage of the Dawn Treader in English! :) Then when I got home the next door neighbor was walking her dog ( He's short legged like Uncle Mikes dog Winston, but his coloring is like a border collies, she said the breads where related) and she offered to have me come along with her so we walked down the beach and through the woods and talked it was nice :) And that is how my day went.

36th day

I went to church today. The church was an old house that they had converted into a church. It was small but there was a lake in the back and it was really pretty. But the congregation is really small there are only like 15 people. A lot of old people and one family with 4 kids. It was fast Sunday and I'm sorry to say that it wasn't a very peaceful attitude. One of the guys started yelling and pounding his fists during his testimony and then an old lady bore her testimony and the lady sitting next to me got up, left and slammed the door behind her. I couldn't understand anything so I have no idea what was going on but it was really scary, I had been counting on the church to be a peaceful place where I could rest and it turned out to be the opposite :( But then I went home and we had guests over. They were friends of Bent and Berit that were visiting the island with a church coir, they were really nice. We had a desert and then went on a walk down the beach and through the forest. It was really beautiful I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures, I will have to go down that way again. And then we had dinner, we had a really salty fish that is a Bornholm specialty, it was actually pretty good. And then we had chicken and potatoes for the second course. I really liked the potatoes, I think potatoes are an exchange students best friend, you can always trust potatoes :)

35th day

Saturday the day of the Wonder Festival. I went over to the wonder festival at like 1:00 and wandered around until I found a boy from my class, Victor, and hung out with him all day because he likes to speak English. So they had some cool bands, one of the first bands had one of the boys from my class in it, and I really liked one called Turbo Weekend. There was lots of food that I spent my money on and there were a lot of drunk people, one of witch came up and hugged me during one of the songs... That was awkward. And I met another exchange student there and we hung out for a bit. So it was pretty fun but I don't think it was worth the 80$ I paid for it, maybe if all my friends from Colorado were there and I wasn't the only sober person there. I spent like almost all of this months allowance. Oh well It was a cool experience.

34th day

Friday! We only had 2 classes today because there was a big music festival called Wonder Festival going on. So I got out at lunch and then went to a bakery and had a cookie sandwich for lunch :D. Then I came home and had a real lunch. That afternoon I tried to find the library but I got lost and it was cold so I went back home. And then at night we watched Denmark's got talent. Its a lot easier to get through because there aren't as many people and they don't have as many weird acts, but it was still entertaining :)

33rd day

Thursday. Today was a long day at school, I had 4 classes and I didn't get out until like 3:45. Yep, that's pretty much all that happened.

Thursday, September 2, 2010

32nd day

Today was good, another short day at school and when I got home I went to the beach because the weather was so nice. It was the clearest I had ever seen it, it was so pretty the beach is different everyday :) And then we went to the store and went grocery shopping, there was a lot of tempting candy but I didn't bring my purse so I didn't waste all of my money.

31st day

Tuesday. The weather was really nice today, and I got to go home at like 1:25. But, biking in the city is dangerous! I almost got ran over like 3 times and someone totally clothes-lined me with their car door and then started apologizing profusely in Danish. It would make a great comic, maybe I'll make one...So a good day :)

30th day

wow lots of days. I went back to school today, sad. It wasn't bad though, everyone was happy to see me! Except I had to bike home in the rain :( It was really miserable. When I got home though I was able to change and spend a nice cozy day inside :)

29th day

Last day of intro camp :( Everyone was really sad we all wished that the week would just keep on going for the rest of our stay but that wouldn't be the point of an exchange would it? (And it's probably more expensive) So we all said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. Some were picked up some got on the bus and some got on the train. I'm willing to bet me and Katy had the longest trip though, we didn't get home until 8:00 even though we left at 10:00. We had dinner at McDonalds :D
